The Reds got their first sweep of the 2019 season at home in a three game series against the Miami Marlins, before taking a split series against the St. Louis Cardinals as the teams faced each other in Monterrey, Mexico in the Mexico Series.

“The pitchers stopping all the other clubs has been great,” Reds right fielder Yasiel Puig told “We’re losing a lot of games by one run because the offense is not giving any runs to defend the pitchers’ good job. Now, everybody is together. That’s the reason we won three games in a row.”

In the first game of the series against the Marlins on Tuesday night, which the Reds won 14-0, Reds pitcher Luis Castillo picked up the win with seven innings pitched with just two hits and a walk given up, while Reds left fielder Matt Kemp led the offense as he had three RBIs, two runs and two hits.

The second game on Wednesday night saw Reds pitcher Tyler Mahle go five innings with one earned run allowed on a pair of hits and four walks, however reliever Amir Garrett took the win with a perfect inning and a third and fellow reliever Raisel Iglesias took his first save of the season as the Reds won it 2-1.

The series finale on Thursday afternoon saw third baseman Eugenio Suarez lead the Reds offense, grabbing two RBIs with a run and three hits in the Reds’ 5-0 win. Robert Stephenson got the win for the Reds with one inning pitched allowing no earned runs, hits or walks.

In the first game against the Cardinals on Saturday night, which the Reds took 5-2, Reds new second baseman Derek Dietrich led the team offensively as he had three RBIs on a run and two hits, however, the team fell in the second game on Sunday afternoon 9-5 to the Cardinals, as Reds left fielder Jesse Winkler led the team offensively with three RBIs, two hits, and a run, however, it wouldn’t be enough.

The team will next play in a West Coast road trip, facing the Los Angeles Dodgers on the road in a three game series, before taking on the San Diego Padres, also on the road, in a four game series.
