The Reds were defeated by the Chicago Cubs in the second game of their series in Chicago on Tuesday night, winning 4-3 in 10 innings, recovering from the Reds’ 6-3 win in the first game of the series on Monday night.
The game began with the Reds scoring all three of their runs in the first inning, as third baseman Eugenio Suarez knocked in a solo home run, followed by an RBI single courtesy of center fielder Nick Senzel and shortstop Jose Peraza added an RBI double. However, the second inning would see the Cubs cut the lead to one, as a new addition in second baseman Robel Garcia hit a two run homer, however the Reds would be able to maintain the lead through the middle innings.
In the sixth, Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant tied the game up 3-3 as he added a solo home run of his own, however neither team would be able to break through in the next three innings to send the game into extra innings.
In the tenth inning, however, Cubs left fielder Kyle Schwarber, who had been having a difficult game at the plate prior to the extra innings, sealed the victory for the Cubs with a game-winning solo homer, helping the Cubs to the 4-3 win in 10 innings.
Cubs relief pitcher Steve Cishek picked up the win, going one inning with no earned runs allowed on one hit and no walks, while Reds reliever Raisel Iglesias was hit with the loss.
The teams will finish up the series in the rubber game on Wednesday afternoon.
