Yankees LHP CC Sabathia Formally Announces Retirement After 2019 Season

New York- On Saturday, Yankees Lefty CC Sabathia formally Announced that the upcoming 2019 Season will be his last. His Wife, Amber, and his Children, and other of his yankee teammates in attendance during the press conference at the Yankees spring training facility in Tampa, FL, Sabathia Formalized what he had been hinting during the offseason. During the press conference, Sabathia took time to acknowledge his family and friends, who had assisted him throughout his illustrious 18-year major league career. “ I wouldn’t be here today after 18 years in the big leagues without so many people—starting with my mom,” Sabathia said. “Her sacrificing so much for me to be able to get to this point and live out this dream, I owe her the world. Sabathia also thanked the Yankees organization who signed him to a 7 year, $161 million deal when he was a free agent after the 2008 season. The southpaw finished top 5 in AL Cy Young award voting in each of his 1st 3 seasons in the Bronx and helped the Yanks win their 27th World Series title in 2009 (which is their most recent World Series championship). “ All I ever wanted for people to remember was as a good teammate,” said Sabathia. “ I look forward to 2019 being a championship season for us, and I’m going to give everything I have and leave it out on the field.” Sabathia enters his farewell season with 246 career wins and stands only 14 strikeouts away from becoming only the 17th pitcher in major league history with 3,000 career strikeouts. The Vallejo, California native won the 2007 AL Cy Young award with the Cleveland Indians, and has won at least 19 games in 4 different seasons ( in 2007, 2009, 2010, and 2011). His Legacy and Retirement elicited congratulations from around the sports world. His former teammate and Future hall of famer, Derek Jeter said that Sabathia, “embodies what it means to be a professional athlete, and as an incredible ambassador for baseball.” His Former battery mate and also a Yankee great Jorge Posada called Sabathia “one of my favorite teammates of all time.” Sabathia even received props from NBA Great and Los Angeles Lakers superstar Lebron James. James said “ i want to congratulate CC on a incredible Major league career” said the 15-time all star and 4 time NBA MVP. “Not only is he one of the best pitchers to ever play the game, but he’ll also go down as one of great competitors to pick up a baseball. His Genuine love of the game and his undeniable passion he’s brought have so much joy to fans for 19 seasons. It’s been an honor to watch him play and excited to see what he’ll take on next. Congrats my friend. “
